Living Authentically Within The World Of The Text

Sean Patrick Folster is an actor, teacher, coach, writer and consultant in New York City. He spearheads all the classes and workshops at The Folster Studio. He is the creator of Script Inquiry®, our signature approach to text work, and has synthesized the best elements from many of the worlds leading teachers and innovators into a flowing, organic way of working that allows the actor to work authentically from themselves while honoring their character and the story.

He is one of the only actors and teachers of his generation with extensive training in the three main traditions of American acting training with a direct line to Stanislavsky. From Meisner, Sean trained with Bill Esper, Wynn Handman and Robert Patterson; from the Strasberg family tree, David Gideon and Sam Schacht; and from Adler, he worked for years with Larry Moss and is a member of the Stella Adler Conservatory’s teaching program Awareness Without Judgement, committed to developing the next generation of artists furthering the rich tradition of Stella’s technique and principles. Additionally, Sean trained with two legends of the British theater, Patsy Rodenburg and director Mike Alfreds, mentor to Mark Rylance among many others, and coached extensively with Tim Phillips and the late Harold Guskin.

Prior to the Studio, he ran Craft Gym Actors Workshop for over eight years, where he began his labor of love of bringing together seemingly dissimilar approaches into “one continuous craft.” Still acting, he has recurred on numerous television series and networks with many top stars and has appeared in over 20 films. He loves the challenge of bringing to his teaching and coaching the best in acting process along with real-world practicality, so that his students receive the power of connection to a great tradition along with the street-smarts that come from adjusting it to today’s working environments.

Sean is a lifer and enjoys sharing what he's found to help make actors better. When not pursuing this way of life that he loves so madly, he leads a more or less quiet, contemplative life in the Bronx.
